Best Short Wine List

Best Short Wine List

Criteria

Best Short Wine List includes lists that feature between 100 and 200 wines (at 75cl bottle-size).

With a list of this size, those designing the wine list are responsible in making clear selections to set out their ambitions and priorities. While the list can still include depth in particular wine regions, styles, or grape varieties, the focus is sharper. Judges will consider the criteria of breadth, depth, height, balance, selection, accuracy, originality, suitability, design, and value when reaching their decision.

WINNERS

Firedoor Restaurant

Global Winner

Sydney, Australia

At Firedoor, we work intuitively with fire and seasonal ingredients.

The kitchen is entirely powered by wood and everything is cooked to order. We burn a variety of woods daily to create embers which are then used to cook in a way that enhances the natural characteristics of the ingredients.

Chef and owner, Lennox Hastie is fascinated by fire; his dedication and uncompromising approach has established Firedoor as an eating experience unlike anything else in town.

We don’t offer fine dining and we are not entirely casual either, choosing to strike a balance somewhere between the two. With Lennox at the grill, we focus on quality ingredients grilled to order, combined with friendly, informative service.

Le Salon de Thé de Joël Robuchon Elements

Asia | Regional Winner

Hong Kong

Le Salon de Thé de Joël Robuchon is a French tea salon that offering a great selection of sandwiches, bakery products, crêpes, pastries and cakes, and coffee/tea for dining-in and takeaway.

One of the best tea salons in town that famously serves afternoon tea, croissants as well as macarons. The décor of the restaurant is contemporary chic featuring lush red velvet seating complemented by dark wood furniture.

Mr. Joël Robuchon was born in Poitiers in 1945. He started his culinary career at the tender age of 15, and by the 1970’s, in Paris, had already gained a reputation as a highly accomplished but ‘rebel chef’, bucking the trends of commonplace nouvelle cuisine. Known for his unwavering pursuit of culinary excellence, Robuchon believed that there was no such thing as the perfect meal; one can always do better.

Having built up a long list of Michelin stars and accolades, at the age of 51, he shocked the culinary world, by announcing his retirement to allow him to spend time with his family and travel the world. During his journeys, he discovered Asia and developed a deep appreciation for Japanese culture and traditions. Several years later Joel returned to being a restaurateur, introducing a refreshing, accessible concept L’atelier, which housed the Japanese dining counter for European food, allowing sociable dining of the highest quality without the pomp and ceremony.
