WINNERS

The World, Residences at Sea

Global Winner

The World® is the largest privately owned, residential yacht on earth with luxury residences. Residents from 19 countries own the homes on board and share interests in world cultures, history, and adventure, and exploring fascinating destinations.

They circumnavigate the globe every two to three years following an extraordinary itinerary that they select. In-depth expeditions and one-of-a-kind experiences are complemented by world-class amenities and facilities including impeccable culinary mastery.

The yacht’s worldwide itinerary allows the sommelier team to purchase wines locally and consequently to create a very vast collection. The development of long standing relationships with winemakers and owners of wineries across the globe permits access to allocations even when productions are small.

The World visits the world’s best wine regions, offering the team an opportunity to meet our old friends and to explore the regions anew and make new discoveries. Their goal is not only to follow up on the development of the classic wine producing regions but to study and showcase in the selection any wine culture of note.

As The World’s chefs strive to feature the fresh market ingredients of the ports visited, the sommeliers create imaginative wine pairings reflecting the diversity of the onboard cuisine, community and destinations.

MSC World Europa

Highly Commended

MSC Cruises is committed to provide the best Wine Experience at Sea. The Yacht Club Restaurant on flagship ship World Europa provides guests with an unforgettable dining experience with the recently launched wine program being an integral part of this.

The Wine Program has multiple new touchpoints in addition to the uniquely curated wine list, such as the introduction of the “green”, paperless wine menu displayed via the VINU Wine App on tablets to promote sustainability, of course a hard copy is available as well printed on recycled papers.

The particular wine menu in mention has been carefully curated, with focus on a diverse selection of 144 wines from various regions around the world (sorted by grape and style).

You will find nectars coming from several types of panoramas such as high-altitude regions (Vale de Uco in Argentina), volcanic wine regions (Etna in Sicily or Santorini Island in Greece) and other classic wine regions known for their outstanding quality (Napa, Pessac Leognan in Bordeaux, and Bolgheri in Tuscany.)

International grape varieties are as well represented as the indigenous ones: the best examples of cabernets and merlots accompany other varieties like Nerello Mascalese, Assyrtico or Tempranillo. From light bodied, easy drinking fine and crispy to full bodied, complex, oak-aged wines will be enjoyed by wine lovers as much as wine novices.

MSC’s sustainability approach strives to satisfy today’s guest and the new generations of wine lovers. This is the reason our guests will find a wide selection of sustainable wines, organic and biodynamic wines. This is also the reason why we decided to feature our wine list on a tablet primary as outlined earlier.
